A Golden Globe winner and Grammy-nominated heir to the throne of such prestigious singers as Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli first appeared on the 1995 version of Pavarotti and Friends -- recorded in Pavarotti's hometown of Modena, Italy -- with Bryan Adams and Nancy Gustafson. His debut album Bocelli did well on European charts in 1996, and its follow-up Viaggio Italiano was equally successful. The 1997 album Romanza was his breakout, selling over ten-million copies and earning him a duet with Celine Dion on "The Prayer." The song won them a Golden Globe award, and earned Bocelli a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. His next major release, Sueños, was a Spanish-language album. In 1999 Bocelli released the eagerly awaited Sogno. -- John Bush |
